Congrats Cadets!

We have participated in the North Texas Colorguard Association for the pas five years.  First with our oldest, and now with our youngest.  Jacy has been part of the Carroll Cadets for the past three years.  Every year they work really hard and have a great show with very clean and difficult flag work.  The way these contests work, you go to 3-4 contests through out Januray, February and March – each contest you can win – but they have a big final championship in March.  Most years the Cadets do well at each contest – usually coming in first or second.  These contests are rather local, so they don’t compete against every school that will be in the championship.  For the first two  years, while we did good at our local contests, there were schools that beat us at the championship and we usually got third place.  But this year it was different.  We did well at our local contests – again, first or second – in fact, we lost to last years champion by one point at our last local contest.  But there were schools that we had not met yet that had surged ahead in their local contests and we came into the championship ranked 4th.

Our Cadets worked really hard this season and it showed with really clean flag work and a really beautiful show.  I was expecting third place.  Behind the two schools that normally beat us.  Both schools had good shows – plus there was a new school that had a very crowd pleasing show.  I was so afraid we were going to get 4th place.  During retreat the announcer kept calling schools….  they got to 4th place… not Carroll (it was the top ranked team going into the contest)  3rd place – not Carroll (and in fact it was last year’s 1st place and 2nd ranked), and then 2nd place….  not Carroll!  Yes, that’s right – Carroll Cadets got 1st place!  It was such a great evening.

Jacy was so happy, and we are so proud of all the girls.  They each got a gold medal – and Jacy wore her medal all day on Sunday.   Next year Jacy will be in the varsity guard and we are looking forward to four more years of high school football games and winterguard competitions.
